These are my top tips to cut down on food waste and save money too
Don’t over buy food plan your meals ahead so you buy just what you need try online shopping as opposed to going to the shops as that smell and look of doughnuts can be just too tempting
check the use by dates on your fresh items rather than the best before dates
Freeze leftovers or have for lunch the next day rather than just throwing them out, that extra portion of pasta can be quite nice cold the next day.
These days you can pretty much freeze everything thats right everything, Well except salad stuff no one likes soggy lettuce, so if you dont use it up on time then you can always freeze it some things that might suprise you can freeze are, Eggs, We crack 3 at a time in to small container and freeze then thats just enough for a portion of scrambled eggs or omelette, Milk also freezes well although when putting it in the freeze use a container that will allow for expansion, Cheese can also be frozen if you are going away for a couple of weeks you can freeze your cheese.
Keep your freezer well organised so things can be foound easy as this also reduces the amount of time the freezer door is open which in turn reduces down the build up of frost in your freezer
Something that people have been doing for centeries preserving food mainly by adding either sugar, salt or vinegar or a combination to an item of food that preserves it and keeps it a good condition for many months, this is great for surplus stocks of fruit which can be turned in to jams and as vegetables come in to season and become cheaper to buy alot of these can be turned in to chutneys great to acompany those ploughmans lunches and if you end up with a few extra eggs and dont know what to do with them then you can always boil them off and pop them in jar along with vinegar for a great pickeld egg which goes great with fish and chips.
